Ahead of Deepavali, the Tamil Nadu government has started distributing free dhotis and sarees to old-age pension beneficiaries through fair price (ration) shops across the State. Distribution began on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. The clothing procured for Deepavali 2026 has already been dispatched to the shops.

  2. Visit your ration shop in person.
  3. Carry your family card with you.
  4. Collect your dhoti or saree by 7 November.

🌾 What's next: Pongal 2027 gift

This is the Deepavali round only. Procurement for the Pongal 2027 free dhoti-saree scheme has also begun, planned for about 2.23 crore beneficiaries. Reports say the new pieces will have modern gold, silver or copper-coloured zari borders and better quality.
